Waste Storage and Transfer System in Gorham

Through the Agricultural Non-Point Source Program's Waste Storage and Transfer System, the farm installed one Waste Storage Facility, one Waste Transfer, 400 feet of Access Road, 1,200 feet of fence, and 1 acre of Riparian Herbaceous Cover. The storage at provides the farm with an additional 5 million gallons of storage in a lined, earthen storage. This additional storage is located directly adjacent to the existing barns and now provides the farm with up to 8 months of storage at current animal numbers. This additional storage capacity allows the farm to spread manure only when conditions are favorable and avoid spreading during periods of frozen and saturated soil conditions. The farm also installed 1 acre of riparian herbaceous buffer on site to provide protection to a class C stream located near the project site.
